Kidd won the 2007 Cooper Hewitt National Design award for his design of a book cover. Having done over 1,000 book cover designs, keeping the designs unique is solely depended upon the writers to give him good books. He is not limited on any new ideas.
A new translation of the new testament was Kidd's biggest challenge as a cover to design. Being an author has not changed how Kidd designs covers. I am sure it has only helped him.
When asked what do you say to the axiom, Dont judge a book by its cover? "My reaction, is oh, go ahead," stated Kidd.
John Gall is a graphic designer that uses a simple but elegant use of typography infused with literary which adds dimension. He also works as an art director at Knopf group. He says making a good book cover from his perspective as a designer is conveying the essence of the book in a a unique and surprisingly way that pushed the design envelope a bit. "The book needs to be able to make a great first impression," Gall states. His way of working is, if you think this is the way it should be done then do the opposite.
Both of these men are great designers. They are doing everyday what we are about to do in this upcoming project. They are so passionate about what they do. Gall said he is a slave for the book when he is working on it. What an interesting way to put it.
